Yurt City – Ireland
Held in Tullamore, Ireland. Yurt City boasts a range of musical performances, plus art exhibits and of course, camping! This is a boutique festival event, held in the grounds of People’s Castle, Charleville Demesne. The event is created by Boots and Kats, Irish DJ duo. Festival visitors can enjoy stand up comedy, dine on delicious food in The Food Village and stay in wonderful Mongolian Yurts. The whole festival is located in the castle courtyard, set in a beautiful oak wood.
Glastonbury – England
Glastonbury is one of the most famous festivals in the world. Every year (excluding recent pandemic times) 200,000 people are in attendance. Tickets are sold out within an hour of going on sale. Many people bring caravans, motorhomes or tents. However, the phenomenon of “glamping” is in full swing at Glastonbury. Yurts, already set up and ready for guests provide a VIP festival experience for those who can afford it. Located in “The Love Fields” there are a range of yurts to choose from. Visitors can stay in a traditional Mongolian yurt. Sizes range from 4 meters, 5 meters and 6 meters sleeping up to 4 people. There is a choice of Ash Yurts too. Smaller than the Mongolian variety, visitors can not fully stand up right, but the sleeping arrangements are comfortable and breakfast is included.
Festival glampers can also opt to stay in bell tents, WV campers and others. Full use of showers and hairdryers are available. A luxury not afforded to those in the general camping area. If you’re thinking yes! This yurt experience sounds great! Be aware the price tag is between £2,300 and £3,000. That’s the equivalent of $2,800 – $4,200 USD or between $3500 and $5,200 CAD. Don’t forget on top of that you have the ticket price of £270 plus food and drink on site.
Coachella – USA
Well known all over the globe, Coachella has plenty of Yurt action. Coachella is often the subject of ridicule and incredulity over the high end options available. For example, it is possible to pay $25,000 to stay in a Resort Yurt. This eye watering high price includes catered meals and artist passes to the festival. Marriott Hotel group has got in on the action with their luxurious “W” tents. The tents are designed to replicate famous hotels around the world. Guests will have access to a pool, air conditioning, king size beds, concierge and maid turn down service. The stay also includes chilled champagne on arrival and morning yoga sessions. The stay requires an exchange of around 80,0000 points or equivalent to upwards of $35,000. Coachella festival tickets cost around $430.
